An aesthetic approach to conscious design in home decor

where craftmanship is valued
and creativity is celebrated

Taking responsibility
Sustainability is something we strive for daily. We do everything we can to keep all of our practices as responsible as possible. We reuse, recycle and regenerate and keep an eye on the whole production chain; from material to factory to product and all people involved in the process. We value fair payment to all of our talented craftsmen creating unique collections, and we constantly improve to be transparent about the way we produce our goods.

Ambition
We strive to be a globally known feelgood brand with a positive presence in many homes. We offer affordable and timeless home & lifestyle products that not only look and feel right, but are all produced from planet friendly sources.

“One of the reasons Urban Nature Culture Amsterdam was brought to life, is because I believe that taking care of the future of our world, nature and its inhabitants, can only be achieved by looking at ourselves.”
-Anne Marie Hermans, Founder

‘’We only develop a limited number of products to avoid overproduction’’

Packaging

We are working hard to decrease the plastic use in packaging and increase recycled and FSC carton. In our 2023 Fall/Winter collection, 26% of our products were sustainably packed. In the Spring/Summer collection of 2024, this percentage is already 46%. We constantly search for better alternatives to plastic to pack our products responsible and protective. We strive to deliver all our goods plastic and styrofoam free by 2030.

‘’Buy less, choose well, make it last’’

- Vivienne Westwood

CO2 reduction
In order to keep our Co2 emission as low as possible, we strive to decrease our number of UPS parcels and shipments by air. Currently, 20% of our products are produced in Europe. We are targeting to produce more in Europe in the near future to reduce CO2 emission.

People
We demand from all our suppliers that they have a BSCI or SEDEX certification. This is a Due Dilligence report to ensure the working environment meets our high standards. Currently, we can say that we work with a 100% of certified suppliers.

Reuse, recycle and regenerate

Secondary materials are better for the planet since they cause less of an impact on our earth due to the fact they have been used somewhere in a product life cycle before. Therefore, they allow for less reliance on the search for new raw resources.

To give an example:

Recycle
A cotton mache products starts off with fabric waste from the clothing industry. Skilled artisans make from those cotton leftovers a piece of decoration

Reuse
Out of transparent glass vases from older collections, we make a new product by painting them. This way, we give a new life to an already existing vase without the need for a new design.

Regenerate
Natural fibers are renewable resources with regenerative properties. They restore and nourish the ecosystems they are part of. We use regenerative materials such as jute in our collections.

What are our responsible materials?

  • Recycled glass, processing waste glass into useable products.
  • Mango wood, one of the fastest growing trees, It gives other types of vulnerable species a chance to rebound and grow back.
  • Ecomix, mixture of recycled paper, natural gum and chalk, the waste of the printing industry.
  • Recycled ceramics, made from 50% recyled ceramic and 50% virgin material.
  • Sea grass, is a fast-growing and quickly renewable plant.
  • Cotton mache, made of cotton fabric, waste of the fashion industry.
  • Banana leafs, biodegradable waste of a banana plant.

Portugal

Near Lisbon, Portugal, the soil is enriched by minerals, plant life, and animals. Water pressure breaks down these elements into fine particles, which are filtered through rocks and sand, forming clay beds. This white clay is ideal for our ceramics, providing a beautiful and organic touch, known for its quality and durability. Each piece is handcrafted by skilled workers.

India

Pottery is one of India’s oldest and widespread craft traditions. This and many other craftmanships hold a rich heritage that reflects the diverse cultures we live between. As the world moves towards sustainability, nature crafts become key in eco-friendly products. Therefore many of our recycled materials are incorporated in India, such as our inventive materials ecomix and cotton mache. Ecomix is an eco-friendly mixture of recycled paper, natural gum and chalk. Cotton mache is made of cotton fabric, this is waste of the fashion industry.

Poland

Polish glass is famous worldwide for its unique patterns and high quality. These pieces showcase the expertise and passion of Polish artists. Each is handcrafted through a process of hand-blowing, shaping, and decorating, making every ornament unique with its own personality and charm.
